Cramming- Good or Bad?

Cramming before a test, we all do it. We procrastinate until the very last day before a test and try to cram all the information we learned. I know you do it, cause I do it too. With a big final exam coming up, I was thinking about cramming but I remember when Mr. Hammer gave me a paper about how cramming is bad for you. So I decided to do some extra research and here is what I came up with.

When you try to cram information into your brain, you are storing this information in the short-term memory of your brain. While cramming can, maybe help you remember a little bit before a test, it will not help you pass. By the next day, half the stuff you tried to stuff in your mind would be long gone. Cramming can lead to lack of sleep, stress, confusion, fatigue, etc. Taking a test half sleep would not be a good idea. Would you really want to deal with that the day you have to take a test that’s 20% of your final grade? Nahh I wouldn’t either. To really grasp information you have to study for little bits at a time over a long period. It will help, seeing the information over and over again. So instead of it being in your short-term memory, it will be transferred to your long-term memory. Taking maybe 30 minutes out of your night for a week to study will do you more justice then 6 hours the night before. Little things like that could help you drastically on a big test. If you feel well prepared for your test, studying a little before you take the test can help you feel reassured that you will pass.

Remember, cramming does not work! Trust me I know, get into good study habits and you will not have to worry about cramming before a test. You will go into that classroom and knock it right out J

  1. What about cramming the day off? it seems like all you right before the test is your short term memory so why not get an hour of studying before each test.
