For my food
analysis, I compared skim milk, 2% milk, and whole milk. The skim
milk was the lowest in calories (80), and Cholesterol (3 mg). It also
had no total fat or saturated fat. Skim milk would probably be the
best milk choice for someone on a low fat diet. The 2% milk contains
122 calories, 5g of total fat. It also contained 20 mg of
cholesterol. 2% milk is lower than skim and whole milk in sodium
(100mg), and carbs (11g). The last milk I compared was Whole milk.
Whole milk was the highest in calories (150), total fat (8g),
saturated fat (5g), and cholesterol (34 mg). It was however, the only
one of the three milks that was high in Vitamin A.
All three types of
milk had the same serving size of 1 cup. I think most people drink
more than 1 cup of milk, so the serving size isn't very reasonable.
All of the milks advertised that there were no hormones or
antibiotics put into the milk. Although many people find this
important, I don't see it affecting the calories, fat, cholesterol
ect. Other than this, all of the product claims agree with what the
product claims. Of the three, the skin milk is probably the
“healthiest” because it is the lowest in calories, cholesterol,
and has no fat. If your on a diet that is low on calories,
cholesterol, fat ect, the whole milk would be the “unhealthiest”
choice. The 2% milk is in the middle for the most part. However, all
choices would be in the MyPlate under the dairy section.
